Free Qi Gong videos for beginners
Here I have collected some freely available Qi Gong videos to practise along with. They were my personal introduction to the world of Qi Gong – long before I learnt Nei Gong with my teachers.
Getting started
Ajahn Suthep teaching Qi Gong
A Buddhist monk demonstrates simple Qi Gong movements – calmly, without excessive explanation. Good for getting a feel for the pace.
Qigong Warmup and Exercise
A warm-up and a short sequence of exercises. If you have no idea where to begin: here.
Deep Breathing Morning Qi Gong
A morning sequence focusing on deep breathing: opening, cleansing, warming. From the Lotus Center Cambodia.
Classical forms
Shibashi – the 18 movements
Shibashi (Taiji Qi Gong in 18 movements) is one of the most widespread forms for beginners, taught here in German. Flowing movements that are easy to remember.
Eight Brocades – 8 Brocades Qigong Practice
The Eight Brocades (Ba Duan Jin) are among the oldest surviving Qi Gong sets. Mimi Kuo-Deemer guides them clearly and with attention to detail.
Eight Brocades – Daoist version
The same form in a Daoist variant, without much explanation. Interesting if you would like to compare the two.
Shaolin Yi Jin Jing – tendon changing, marrow washing
A form from the Shaolin tradition, more vigorous and involving more stretching than the others here. Better suited to later, when the body has already opened a little.
Dragon and Tiger Qigong
Jane Launchbury demonstrates Dragon and Tiger, a set of seven movements that uses sweeping movements along the body.
Standing, flowing, touching
QiGong with Pragata Blaise
Standing Qi Gong: little movement, plenty of attention. Standing remains a core part of my own practice to this day.
Between Heaven and Earth
A complete twenty-minute practice session from Long White Cloud Qigong – good if you would like to practise a whole sequence from start to finish.
Dr. Love teaches Qigong Massage
Self-massage with the hands along the body, part 3 of a series. Easy to understand even without the earlier parts.
A glimpse in another direction
Infinity Quantum Qi Gong, Ama Lia Wai Ching Lee
This is a presentation, not a video to practise along with. I included it at the time because it is beautifully soft and shows a feminine way of practising Qi Gong – a different expression from the more vigorous forms above. Take it as a glimpse, not as instructions.
And then?
Videos are a good starting point. What they cannot do: see you. At some point, it is worth practising with others – with a teacher or at a KI-mo evening, where there is room for questions and someone notices what you do not notice yourself.
